Work by the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee in the First Eleven Months of 1999

The Anti-Counterfeiting Committee (ACC) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) is responsible for coordinating the efforts of prosecutors, police, and investigators for investigations and raids in counterfeit trademark cases and "professional infringement" copyright cases. The ACC also assists patent and copyright owners to pursue criminal prosecutions in patent and copyright infringement cases.

From January through November 1999, the ACC investigated 468 trademark
infringement cases. Working in close cooperation with prosecutors, police, and investigators, the ACC coordinated raids in 304 intellectual property infringement cases. Of these 304 cases, there were 38 cases in which the market value of counterfeit or pirated products exceeded NT$1 million. During this same period, the ACC handled 468 trademark cases referred from Customs. In addition, the ACC approved rewards of NT$5,520,624 involving 193 cases where the public reported counterfeit trademarks or patents.

Despite limited personnel resources, the ACC has earned the support of industry and IPR-related organizations by coordinating the work of prosecutors, police and investigation organization to conduct raids for counterfeit and pirated products. The ACC urges all persons in Taiwan to reject counterfeit and pirated products and to use the toll-free hotline of 080-211-039 to report suspected cases.
