IPO Considers Revising Invention Award Regulations |
The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) has announced that it is considering revising the Regulations on Invention Awards. The regulations were initially promulgated on 1 July 1996 and were revised on 18 February 1998. The intent of the regulations is to encourage creativity and inventions in Taiwan. Under the current regulations, the IPO annually presents the National Invention Awards and prizes at the National Invention Exhibition. The IPO is considering combining the two competitions into a single annual National Invention Award competition because there is duplication in the purpose, functions, and judging criteria for the two prizes under the current system. The IPO proposal also plans to increase the number of awards presented in order to increase the participation of inventors and industry in the competition. The IPO is also considering staging an annual national exhibition of prize winners from the National Invention Award competition, major international invention competitions, and student invention competitions. Such an exhibition would help inventors promote their products to a wider audience, promote economic development, and assist the inventors to further engage in research and development. The IPO will hold a public hearing after written comments from the public are collected on the proposed revisions. Comments, which may be sent by e-mail to ipogp2@mail.moeaipo.gov.tw or by fax at 886-2-2737-4030. The current regulations can be downloaded from the IPO website at http://www.moeaipo.gov.tw/nbsl/nbs890118.htm. |
