In January 2000, the GIO and local government agencies jointly made 128 investigations of MTV parlors. (Fifty-seven of these investigations were made after 8 p.m.) They also made 162 investigations of video rental shops and 27 investigations of other establishments. These investigations resulted in the seizure of 1,650 illegal videotapes, 3,109 illegal laser discs, and 7 videotapes which had exceeded the dates of their authorization. Two cases were referred to district courts on suspicion of violating copyright law and public morals. Eighteen cases were subject to administrative sanctions under the Broadcasting and Television Law.
