IPO, CNFI urge trade show participants to prepare documentation

Some Taiwan firms participating in overseas trade shows have recently been accused of trademark and patent infringement. Foreign companies have undertaken investigations of these Taiwan firms, attempted to seize products, and filed lawsuits for infringement. Not only do these types of actions hamper the ability of Taiwan firms to participate in the trade shows, they also reflect poorly on the image of the country.
In order to avoid these types of situations, the Intellectual Property Office and the Chinese National Federation of Industries have recently urged Taiwan firms to ensure that they bring with them proper trademark, patent and copyright registration and license documentation when they participate in overseas trade shows. They have also urged publishers to be aware of the relevant regulations in the countries which host the trade shows to ensure that their advertising does not violate the law. If these measures are taken, Taiwan firms can prevent the violation of intellectual property rights laws while maintaining their own interests and the image of the country.
